What it does

WORK 4 A LIVING helps young people understand what employers expect and how to find, keep and grow in a job. The programme combines practical work-readiness training with pathways into real opportunities.

Why it matters

Many young people leave school and are expected to work without ever being shown what that actually involves.

They don’t fail because they lack potential.

They struggle because no one has made the rules of work visible.

WORK 4 A LIVING changes that. It helps young people understand how workplaces operate, build confidence in real-world situations and know what is expected of them.

How this connects to work

This is where preparation becomes action. Without this step, many people struggle to convert skills into real opportunities.

WORK 4 A LIVING helps young people:

  • take their first step into work
  • succeed in entry-level roles
  • and start earning or building experience

Funding the future

Why this is worth funding

This programme tackles one of the biggest gaps: the jump from learning to actually working. ‍ It prepares young people before they enter the workforce, reduces drop-off and failure in early jobs, and increases the chances of long-term success.

What funding enables

Funding helps more young people prepare for work through practical training that reflects what employers expect, making the move from education into earning easier.
